📚 Today We’re Off to North Yorkshire – and the Berts Are Coming Too!

There’s nothing quite like walking into a primary school with a backpack full of stories and a robot under your arm.

Today, we’re heading to a primary school in North Yorkshire to read one of our favourite Weebert’s World stories, this one features robots, chickens, and dinosaurs (and yes, somehow it all makes perfect sense when Weebert is involved!).

Weebert’s World school visits are one of our greatest joys. Because yes, we absolutely love sharing our stories. But even more than that, we love watching children light up with possibility.

🧡 Why do we visit schools?

Because imagination matters.

Because creativity is a skill, not a nice-to-have.

Because when children meet real makers and real storytellers, not just cartoons or names on the back of books, they start to believe they could be makers and storytellers too.

A Weebert’s World school visit isn’t just an author reading or a guest speaker session.
It’s an experience. It’s an invitation to play, to explore, and to imagine.

It’s a gentle spark that says:
💡 “You can build something too.”
📚 “You can tell your own story.”
🔧 “Your ideas are worth something.”

And it’s always deeply personal. Because they’re not just meeting characters, they’re meeting us:

👨‍🏭 Andy – The Maker
Andy’s scrap-built robot sculptures begin as forgotten objects: Cold War cameras, helicopter parts, old soldering irons, vintage clocks and springs. Through patience, play, and 43 years of aviation engineering experience, he transforms them into Berts, each with its own character and charm.

✍️ Lotty – The Author
That’s me! The stories began as tiny adventures written for our grandchildren and turned into books full of heart, humour and hope. My goal is always the same: to give children permission to play, imagine, explore, and create without fear of getting it wrong.

✨ What actually happens during a visit?

Here’s what’s happening in North Yorkshire today, (we tailor each visit to each school):

📖 A live Weebert story reading
Today’s book stars robots, chickens, and dinosaurs, an unexpected story if ever there was one! But somehow, together, it’s full of mischief, and wonder!

🤖 Meet the real Berts
We bring the actual sculptures into the classroom. These aren’t toys or animations, they’re real robot characters made from scrap, with Meccano wheels, copper wire hair, vintage camera eyes and all kinds of surprising details.

The children see what’s possible when creativity meets engineering, and they love it.

🧠 Curiosity-led conversations
“Is that a real engine?” “Can you really make things fly?” “What happens if it breaks?”
Children ask with their whole heart, and we answer with ours. It’s not a script. It’s a conversation.

✍️ Inventing a brand-new Bert story, together
This part is always a favourite.

At the end of every visit, we invite the children to help us imagine a brand-new Weebert adventure.
At Shrewsbury High School, they sent us into outer space.
Today in North Yorkshire, we’re heading underwater, and we can’t wait to see what creatures, contraptions and chaos they dream up.

Each group creates something totally unique, and we often leave with a notebook full of ideas and smiles all round.

💡 Why it matters

In a world where children are often rushed from subject to subject, a Weebert visit creates space. Space to slow down, to wonder, and to build something in their mind that didn’t exist before.

It’s not just about stories or STEM,  it’s about confidence, curiosity, and connection.

We’ve seen children who were quiet at the start of a session become the first to put up their hand by the end.
We’ve had teachers tell us it’s the most engaged they’ve ever seen their class.
And we’ve had parents share that their child hasn’t stopped drawing and inventing for days after.

📩 Want us to visit your school?

We’d love to.

We’re based in Shropshire and travel across the UK. We work with schools directly, and we also deliver STEM outreach on behalf of forward-thinking businesses who want their CSR to leave a legacy.

So whether you’re a teacher looking to inspire your class, or a business looking to give back in a way that really means something, we’d love to talk.

📧 Just email us: contact@weebertsworld.com
We’ll bring the robots, the stories — and the spark.

Love,
Lotty (& Andy & the Berts) x
