A Hallibert Christmas; Mindful Handmade Gift Ideas from Weebert’s World

A Hallibert Christmas, Finding Stillness in the Season’s Rush

I never believed a handful of scrap could teach me how to slow down.

But that’s exactly what happened when Andy built Hallibert, the little fishing Bert who sits quietly in his wooden boat, rod in hand, a fish already hooked. His boat is made from an old loom shuttle, his body from a Bakelite jack plug, and his fishing rod from piano wire and Meccano, with a fish lovingly crafted from vintage clock parts, as if time itself had taken the bait.

There’s something about him that makes you stop.

He doesn’t rush. He doesn’t demand attention. He’s calm, content, and deeply human in his stillness.

And I think that’s what we’re all craving right now … not more, just enough.

After 43 years in aviation, 27 in the military, 16 in civil, Andy was used to noise, motion, and precision. But when life slowed down, silence felt deafening. It was only in his workshop, surrounded by forgotten helicopter parts and pieces of history, that he found peace again. He turned to what he knew best, engineering, and began building something new from what others had thrown away.

From that process, Weebert’s World was born.

When I first saw that tiny robot in his boat, I realised something: stillness isn’t the opposite of progress. It’s where imagination begins.

Christmas often convinces us that everything has to sparkle. The perfect tree. The perfect gifts. The perfect moment. But the truth is, the things that stay with us,  the ones that matter, are usually quiet.

The smell of mince pies from the oven.
The sound of laughter in another room.
A small sculpture sitting on a shelf, reminding you to breathe.

Hallibert is that feeling in physical form.

He’s one of a kind. There will only ever be one Hallibert in the world, and once he sails off to his forever home, his story continues somewhere new.

Maybe that’s the kind of Christmas gift we all need, something made by hand, made with meaning, made to last.

When you bring home a Bert, you’re not just buying art. You’re becoming part of a story,  helping fund our dream of bringing Weebert’s World to children’s TV, where stories like Hallibert’s will inspire imagination, curiosity, and kindness.

So if this season feels too noisy, maybe you need a moment of stillness too.
A reminder that the best catches in life don’t come from chasing,  they come from pausing long enough to notice.
