Weebert and the Rainbow Reef – Free Story
Wrtten by Lotty Laverton and inspired by the children of Kirby Hill Primary School North Yorkshire
Weebert the Bert was terribly bored.
He wiggled, he wobbled, he shuffled and snored.
“There’s nothing to do!” he sighed with a pout,
Till Digbert popped in and gave a loud shout
“The sea needs our help! It’s turning quite grey!
The coral’s all droopy, the fish swam away!”
Egbert said kindly, “We can’t just delay
Let’s pack up some snacks and be off for the day!”
Then Albert appeared with a pop! and a spin,
“Hop in my Sub-Shark! Adventure begins!”
It shimmered with fins and a glittery grin
A submarine shark with a smile made of tin.
They zoomed through the sea, past a dancing swordfish,
Who flipped through the waves with a whoosh and a swish.
A whale shark waved gently and wiggled its nose,
While sea snakes did spirals in elegant rows.
Weebert peeked out at a reef all askew
No colours! No bubbles! No bright fish in view!
“The ocean feels poorly,” said Digbert, quite sad.
Egbert gave hugs. So good, when things go bad.
Just then from the shadows there shot something pink!
It wrapped them in arms made of suckers and ink!
“Oh no!” squeaked Weebert, “We’re under attack!”
But it wobbled with joy and gave Weebert a Pat.
“She’s not being nasty,” said fishy friend Nell,
“She’s tangled in rubbish, all caught in a shell!”
So Digbert unwrapped her with care and with speed,
And planted a sea-bean (a magical seed).
The seed grew a sprout, then a blossom, then more
Soon rainbow-bright coral rose up from the floor!
It shimmered and sparkled, it shimmered some more,
The fish swam back in and began to explore.
But trouble was brewing above, on the land
A tsunami was coming, tall, swirling and grand!
Albert cried, “Quickly! Let’s turn back the clock!
Or seaside and town will be washed off the dock!”
With watch spinning backwards, the time gears went fast
They landed just moments before it could blast.
Digbert built channels, Egbert built dams,
Weebert flung seaweed to shore with a WHAM!
Together they planted a forest of kelp,
To soak up the waves and offer some help.
The tsunami grew tired, gave one last great puff
Then fizzled away with a burble and huff.
Their job now was done, but their hearts had a glow
The sea had been saved from the top to below.
So they visited Atlantis, where dolphins wore hats,
And jellyfish danced with umbrella-like splats.
A Rainbow Shark shimmered, with colours so bright,
Its stripes glowing softly in warm ocean light.
It painted a rainbow from coral below,
A magical arch with a gentle, soft glow.
Then back to their home, the four Berts did zoom,
Through seaweed and sparkle and seashell perfume.
Weebert declared, as they opened the gate
“I love being bored! It leads to things great!”
