From Scrap to Something Beautiful

From Scrap to Something Beautiful

A story about creativity, mental health, and building Weebert’s World from the ground up

Three years ago, everything felt heavy.

Andy was struggling with his mental health. Really struggling. Not in a way that was obvious to everyone else,  but in the quiet, everyday moments that stop feeling like anything at all.

If you’ve ever been there, or loved someone who has, you’ll know what I mean. It wasn’t dramatic. It was slow. Numb. Lonely. And it crept into everything.

We weren’t trying to “fix” it. We were just trying to make it through each day.

Then one day, Andy walked into the garage.

Not with a plan. Not to “be productive.” He just needed a space. Somewhere quiet. Somewhere he could be with his thoughts and his hands.

He started picking up bits of scrap. Copper wire. Watch parts. Bits of old helicopters. Vintage tools. Meccano wheels. He started building, not with blueprints, but with instinct.

And something strange and wonderful happened.

From that pile of forgotten parts, robots began to emerge.

The Berts were born.

Each one had its own personality. Each one felt like it had something to say. And as Andy created them, something inside him began to shift. The fog lifted. Slowly, gently, bit by bit.

I saw the change in him. And I saw the stories in those robots.

So I started writing.

Weebert,  the smallest Bert, made from a vintage spy camera and opera glasses, was the first to speak. Then came Tweebert, Digbert, Hubert, and a whole world of characters. Their stories were full of mischief, wonder, and curiosity. Just like our grandchildren. Just like the way we wish the world could be for them.

We didn’t realise it then, but we were building Weebert’s World.

From pain came purpose.

This isn’t a blog about business strategy or success. It’s a story about making something good out of something hard.

It’s about the healing power of creativity. About giving yourself permission to play, even when you don’t know where it’s going. About making something,  anything,  instead of staying stuck.

It’s about starting where you are. With what you’ve got. Even if that’s just a table in the kitchen and a handful of broken watch parts.

Now, Weebert’s World is our full-time adventure.
Our kitchen table has become our stop-motion studio, our story lab, and sometimes our meeting room for pitch decks and investment chats. We’re building something big, a children’s brand rooted in imagination, storytelling, and giving families the gift of creativity.

But we’ll never forget how it started. With a struggle. With some scrap. And with the courage to try.

And maybe that’s the real message:

If you’re in a hard place, if you feel like you’ve lost your spark, you haven’t. It’s still there. It’s just waiting for you to pick it up again.

Dust it off. Piece it together. Tell it a story.

Because from scrap, something beautiful can grow.
