It’s still early—too early, really—but I’m already up, dressed, and sipping my coffee while mentally running through everything I’ve packed (twice). Today I’m heading off to the Get Animated conference in Birmingham, and for the first time, I’m going solo. No Andy. Just me, my notes, my comfy shoes, and a head full of hopes for what Weebert’s World might grow into.
I won’t lie—I’m nervous. There’s something a bit daunting about stepping into a room full of industry experts, licensing professionals, and brilliant creatives all buzzing with ideas and experience. It’s easy to feel like the new kid with the homemade project. But nerves are part of the process, aren’t they? They show you care. That you’re stretching. That what you’re doing matters.
I’ve got a handful of one-to-one meetings booked with people who really know their stuff when it comes to licensing—some serious movers and shakers in the world of character brands and children’s content. And while part of me wants to hide behind a robot sculpture and whisper “Please like Weebert,” the much louder part of me—the part that made this dream real in the first place—is ready.
Because here’s the thing: I do believe in Weebert’s World. I believe in the joy, imagination, and sense of play that sits at the heart of it. I believe that a scrappy little robot made from old clock parts and copper wire can help inspire the next generation of dreamers and makers. And I believe that a world built on curiosity, creativity, and a little bit of storytelling magic is worth sharing.
Going to events like this without Andy by my side is a bit of a milestone. He’s the builder, the sculptor, the hands behind the Berts—and usually, the one holding my bag when I get talking too fast. But today, I’m doing this as me. Lotty. The writer, the co-founder, the woman who sat down with a blank page and imagined a whole world built from scrap.
To anyone else doing something that scares them a little today—stepping into a room full of strangers, pitching a dream, or just showing up despite the wobble—you’re not alone. I’m right there with you. Because progress doesn’t always look like confidence. Sometimes it looks like shaky hands and a deep breath… followed by the best conversation you didn’t see coming.
So here’s to the anxious doers, the hopeful planners, the slightly overwhelmed but wildly passionate people building something from nothing.
I’ll be back soon with updates, new connections (fingers crossed!), and maybe even a few stories from behind the scenes of Get Animated. Until then—wish me luck. 🍀
Lotty x
