Imagination, Curiosity & Why Slowing Down Matters More Than Ever
This week I saw a post on LinkedIn from Richard Harpin (Founder of Homeserve) that really got me thinking. He said curiosity is the superpower of a successful entrepreneur, and I couldn’t agree more. It reminded me how far we’ve come with Weebert’s World, all built from two things: curiosity and imagination.
Not clever tactics. Not flashy marketing. Just two people in their 60s (that’s me and Andy), believing in the power of asking “what if?” and daring to imagine something better.
And lately, I’ve been wondering, are we giving today’s children enough space to do the same?
The pace of everything…
I don’t know about you, but it feels like the world’s sped up. Even children’s telly seems to be in fast-forward, bright colours, loud sounds, everything flying past at 100 miles an hour. And it’s not just TV. More and more kids are watching YouTube instead, often without adults around to help them make sense of what they’re seeing.
The stats back it up:
-
Children aged 4–7 now watch more YouTube than traditional TV, often for hours a day.
-
Research from Ofcom shows kids are online younger and longer than ever.
-
Fast-paced videos with autoplay can reduce attention spans and limit opportunities for creative thought.
Now, I’m not saying screens are bad, we use them too. But I am saying this: if we don’t make room for curiosity and imagination, we risk raising kids who are brilliant at swiping… but not so great at wondering.
Why we made Weebert’s World
Weebert’s World came from the kitchen table. Literally. Andy was building a little robot from scrap (as he does!) and I looked at it and thought, “What if that little robot had a story?” So I wrote one. Then another. And before we knew it, we’d built a whole world.
A gentle, playful world where imagination is centre stage.
We film stop-motion animations using the real-life Berts Andy builds. They’re short, slow, and a bit quirky, more Bagpuss than Blippi. And that’s the point. We want children to watch less content, but love it more. To feel inspired to make their own stories, build their own characters, and look at the world a bit differently.
What we offer (for free!)
We’re proud to say Weebert’s World is 100% British made. You can find our stop-motion animations on YouTube, completely free to watch. And if your little one wants to explore more, our website has free downloads too: colouring sheets, Bert-building ideas, story starters.
It’s all designed to spark that lovely mix of curiosity and creativity.
And if you’re a parent, grandparent, or carer who’s been looking for something gentler in all the digital noise — something made with heart, then you’re exactly who we made this for.
We’re not anti-screens. We’re pro-imagination.
We know life’s busy. Screens help. But they shouldn’t replace the messy, brilliant magic of doing. That’s what we’re about, helping families slow down just a little. Watch a story together. Laugh. Wonder. Then maybe go build your own Bert out of scrap and see what happens.
Because when we give children the space to be curious, to imagine, and to play… we grow the innovators of tomorrow. And goodness knows the world needs them.
Thank you for reading, and thank you Richard Harpin for reminding me just how powerful these “soft” things really are.
