It’s Monday. The coffee is on, the to-do list is side-eyeing me from across the room, and I’ve already given the chickens a motivational speech (they remain unmoved—and still won’t lay in the nesting boxes, freeloaders). But as I settle into the start of a new week, I’ve been thinking a lot about a word that gets thrown around a lot when I tell people about Weebert’s World:
“That’s so imaginative!”
And they mean it kindly. But there’s always a certain tilt of the head, a slightly softened tone—as if I’ve said I spend my time building fairy houses out of marshmallows. Lovely, yes. But fluffy.
So let me say it loud for the people at the back: Imagination isn’t fluffy. It’s a superpower.
Imagination builds futures
It’s not just for kids with glitter glue and cardboard boxes. It’s not about escapism or wishful thinking. Imagination is what helps us:
- Solve problems when we don’t have instructions.
- Think up solutions in tricky situations.
- Dream up businesses, books, inventions, and bold new ideas.
- Stay resilient when life throws a curveball.
For me, imagination took a pile of scrap in the shed and turned it into Weebert—a tiny robot made from clock springs, camera parts, and copper wire. But more than that, it sparked a story. Then another. Then a vision for a world that could inspire children to imagine, create, and believe in their own ideas.
Now, that spark has grown into books, stop-motion animations, a growing brand, a school outreach programme, and a YouTube channel—with a bigger dream to see Weebert’s World on children’s television.
The not-so-fluffy truth
None of this has been fluffy. It’s been joyful, yes—but also challenging, uncertain, exhausting at times. Imagination doesn’t replace hard work—it fuels it.
Every pitch I write, every visit to a school, every early morning spent wrangling with business plans (while still in my pyjamas) is driven by imagination. The belief that we can build something meaningful from scrap—that play and creativity are not just nice extras for kids, but vital foundations for innovation, emotional wellbeing, and lifelong learning.
Why this matters (especially on a Monday)
Monday can feel like a mountain. Whether you’re starting your week as a parent, teacher, creative, or small business owner, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the practical and forget about the imaginative.
But imagination is what helps us see beyond the mountain. It’s how we say: “What if I tried this?” or “What if there’s another way?” It’s how new paths are forged.
So this Monday, here’s your reminder:
💡 Let your mind wander—on purpose.
💡 Encourage your kids to make up stories.
💡 Doodle in the margins. Daydream a little.
💡 Say “what if?” and follow the thread.
Because every brilliant invention, business, story—or robot made of clock parts—started with imagination.
And no, it’s not fluffy. It’s fierce. It’s bold. And it just might change everything.
Here’s to coffee-fuelled creativity and a week full of tiny sparks that grow into something wonderful.
