Jeremy Vine, Matt Goss and the House of Lords: A Magical Night for Weebert’s World
If you’d told me a year ago we’d be standing on the terrace of the House of Lords talking to Jeremy Vine about our scrap-built robot, I would’ve laughed, blushed, and made a cup of tea to steady myself.
But on Tuesday night, that’s exactly what happened.
We were at the Soldiering On Awards Finalist Celebration, not the main event (that’s in October), but a beautiful evening bringing together finalists, nominators, judges and supporters. And somehow, amongst all the remarkable people and the glittering view over the Thames, Jeremy Vine was there. On the terrace. And when we went over to say hello, he looked up with a smile and said,
“Ah, it’s the robots!”
He remembered us from last year.
He asked how things were going, and genuinely listened as we told him how far we’d come. That small moment, being remembered, being seen, telling our story, meant more than I can say. He was warm, generous, and exactly how you’d hope Jeremy Vine would be.
But that wasn’t the only unforgettable moment of the night.
Because Matt Goss was there too. Yes … the Matt Goss.
And what a lovely, kind, engaging soul he is. He asked about Weebert’s World, listened carefully, and said how much he loved what we’re doing. He even told us he’d be heading home to watch our YouTube channel. Then, to top off a surreal and joy-filled evening, he gave me a kiss on the cheek.
Not washing for a week. Still grinning.
He’ll be performing at the main awards night in October, and if Tuesday was anything to go by, it’s going to be something very special.
Beyond the stars and the setting, what struck us most was the real belief people had in Weebert’s World. We also spoke to:
🌍 Helen, CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation, who wants to see our ideas.
📚 John Nichol, who was genuinely fascinated by Weebert and the world we’re creating.
🎖 Lt Gen Richard Nugee, who told Andy he loves what we’re doing and to keep going.
That kind of encouragement means everything. Especially because…
I am so proud of Andy.
These events don’t come easy for him. Crowded rooms, noise, new people, they take energy, and bravery, and quiet strength. But he came. He stood tall. And every time someone admired his sculptures or smiled about a Bert, I saw a flicker of pride return. It lit him up. And I’ll hold onto that.
We also got to hug Ren Kapur MBE and Dougie Thompson, two of Weebert’s earliest champions. They believed in us when we were still figuring it all out. Being able to share that House of Lords moment with them, after everything, was a reminder of how far we’ve come, and how much further we can go.
No medals or trophies were handed out that night. But it didn’t matter. We left with something even better: belief, encouragement, and the sense that Weebert’s World really is reaching hearts.
If you’re new here, welcome.

We’re just two people in our 60s, chasing a dream that started on a kitchen table with a little robot made from a vintage spy camera… and last night, that dream sparkled a little brighter.
With love and gratitude,
Lotty & Andy xx
