Less Perfection, More Permission đź’›

If there’s one thing I’ve learned—raising children, now grandchildren, and building Weebert’s World—it’s this:

Children don’t need more perfection. They need more permission.

Permission to make a mess. To ask strange questions. To try, and fail, and try again. To turn a cardboard box into a spaceship, or a pile of clock parts into a robot with a name like Cogbert.

That’s what Weebert’s World is really about. It might look like stop-motion, scrap-built robots and silly birthday messages—but underneath it all, it’s about freeing up imagination. Giving children (and maybe adults, too) permission to play, explore, and create without worrying if it’s “good enough.”

I spent too many years thinking imagination was something to be tamed. That I needed to be serious, sensible, adult. But now? Now I believe play is serious. Creativity is powerful. And those silly little ideas we scribble down—those are often the ones that spark the most magic.

Weebert isn’t perfect. He’s made from scraps. His head is a spy camera, and he’s a little wonky if you look closely. But he’s kind, curious, and full of ideas. And if he can inspire a child to build their own Bert from a cereal box and a loo roll – well, that’s the dream.

So today’s blog is a gentle nudge to let go of the pressure, the polish, the need to get it just right.

Give yourself (and your little ones) permission to play.
