Little Feet, Big Journeys… One Sandy Step at a Time

There’s something about the beach that always makes me pause. Maybe it’s the endless horizon, maybe it’s the sound of the waves, or maybe it’s simply watching my grandchildren running along the sand, their little footprints trailing behind them.

This week we stood on the beach together, and I found myself watching those small, sandy steps with a lump in my throat. Because every step they took wasn’t just a walk across the shore,  it was a journey into their imagination. One moment the waves were chasing them, the next they were explorers mapping new worlds, and before long, they were laughing, tumbling, and building castles that only they could truly see.

And it made me think: this is exactly what we’re trying to build with Weebert’s World.

The Power of Small Steps

As adults, it’s easy to get caught up in the “big picture.” The goals. The milestones. The business plan. But when I watch my grandchildren, I’m reminded that imagination doesn’t arrive in one giant leap, it happens step by step.

One sandy footprint at a time.

That’s why we created Weebert, our little scrap-built robot who started life no bigger than a can of beans. He was made from a tiny vintage camera, a pair of opera glasses, and a tangle of copper wire. Nothing fancy. Nothing expensive. Just scrap turned into something magical.

Children don’t need polished, perfect toys to spark creativity. They need permission. Permission to see beyond what’s in front of them. Permission to play. Permission to turn boredom into an adventure.

That’s where Weebert’s World comes in.

A World for Every Generation

When I was little, I always had a book in my hand. The Wishing Chair, Narnia, The Family From One End Street, The Dew Drop Inn, each story opened a doorway into a world I could carry with me long after I closed the pages.

Those books didn’t just fill my childhood,  they built a bridge across generations. My parents could talk to me about them, and now I see echoes of the same magic when I read with my grandchildren.

That’s what we’re trying to build with Weebert’s World: not just children’s robot stories or a stop motion robot animation for kids, but a world that parents, grandparents, and children can all enjoy together. Stories where you can laugh side by side, swap favourite characters, and maybe even be inspired to build your own little robot out of scrap at the kitchen table.

Because imagination doesn’t belong to one age group. It’s a gift we can all share.

Why This Matters

You might be wondering, why a world of scrap-built robots? Why chickens and dinosaurs? Why stop motion animation in a time when so much is digital and instant?

The answer is simple. Because children need stories that feel real.

We’ve learnt something on this journey that might help you, too: when children see that something has been made with care, with human hands, with imagination rather than perfection, they lean in. They’re curious. They start to believe that they, too, can make something out of nothing.

That’s why Weebert’s World isn’t just entertainment,  it’s about inspiring kids into STEM with robots, creativity, and play. It’s about showing that engineering and imagination are not opposites, but partners.

An Invitation

So here’s what I’d like you to take away today. Whether you’re a parent, a teacher, a grandparent, or someone who simply remembers the joy of childhood stories: the smallest steps matter.

Read with your children. Let them make a mess with cardboard and tape. Tell them stories at bedtime that don’t always make sense. Encourage them to see the extraordinary in the ordinary.

Because little feet, big journeys really do begin one sandy step at a time.
