Meet The Berts – Digbert

It’s Sunday, which means it’s time to meet another one of The Berts from Weebert’s World! And this week’s star? It’s none other than the green-fingered, slightly wobbly, always-watering Digbert. 🌱🚿

Now, Digbert is the Bert who loves all things that grow. If it sprouts, climbs, blossoms or needs a bit of compost—he’s your bot. He’s got the patience of a saint when it comes to seeds, but if you’ve ever had a friend who reads the back of a seed packet and then googles three more articles “just to be sure”—that’s Digbert. 😅

He’s built from the best kind of bits: a sturdy wiper motor housing for a torso (he’s reliable, even in the rain), helicopter door parts for arms (for dramatic watering-can flourishes), a solid brass gear wheel as a base (for that grounded-in-the-garden feel), and a vintage wire cutter for a head. Oh, and let’s not forget the copper bits from an old valve radio sprouting from the back of his head —it’s less ‘bedhead’ and Radiohead and more ‘flower bed’. 🌼

You’ll never see him without his trusty watering can. It’s practically part of him. Digbert is passionate about helping children learn how things grow—whether that’s sunflowers, strawberries, or confidence. But, like many of us, he’s also a bit of a worrier. “What if the carrots don’t grow?” “What if the rain doesn’t come?” “What if the snails throw a party and eat everything?!”

Thankfully, he’s got Barbara to help him out. Barbara is a sheep. Not just any sheep. She’s everyone’s favourite woolly grandma—wise, gentle, and excellent at calming flustered gardening robots. Barbara knows that a little bit of worry is normal, but a lot of it can get in the way of the fun. So, she helps Digbert take a breath, step back, and enjoy the process. Because after all, the best things grow in their own time.

So if you’ve got a little one (or a big one) who loves the garden but gets frustrated when things don’t happen fast enough—Digbert gets it. He’s all about digging in, watering patiently, and trusting that the magic is happening just beneath the soil.

And if you want to bring a bit of Digbert’s gardening energy into your day, head over to our website. We’ve got free stories and activity sheets that are perfect for curious minds and green thumbs alike.

🌻 Because in Weebert’s World, there’s always something growing—even if it takes a while to see it.
