Welcome to the very first edition of Meet The Berts! Each Sunday, I’ll be introducing you to one of the quirky, imaginative, scrap-built robots from The Adventures of Weebert stories. And of course, we’re starting with the original, the cheeky little spark that started it all… Weebert himself.
Weebert is no bigger than a can of beans. Literally. He can tuck into a lunchbox quite comfortably (though he’d much prefer a picnic basket and a proper view, thank you very much).
Weebert was created from scrap parts by my husband Andy—robot-maker, ex-helicopter engineer, and the man who can spot a useful bit of metal in a skip at 20 paces. Every part of Weebert tells a story:
🕵️♂️ His head? A Cold War spy camera. 👀 His eyes? A vintage pair of opera glasses. 🔩 His eyebrows? Wiggly little fly pinions from an old clock. 💇♂️ His hair? Carefully twisted copper wire (no trips to the barbers for him). 🧰 His arms and body? The inner workings of a vintage clock and a set of ‘helping hands’ used in electronics. ⚒️ On his chest? A W for Weebert and a tiny hammer, ready for action.
He shuffles when he walks, with a sweet little wiggle that’s utterly endearing. But he also has a secret skill—he can hover just slightly above the ground using the earth’s magnetic core. (He says it’s all down to a strong imaginary magnet in his tummy. Who am I to argue?)
Weebert is lovable, curious, and full of mischief. He’s the kind of character who declares he’s bored every other minute—and somehow that always leads to an unexpected adventure. The kind of adventure where kids (and grown-ups too) get to imagine, create, and explore.
He’s proof that even the smallest things—built from the most forgotten bits—can spark big ideas.
And that’s the real heart of Weebert’s World. These stories aren’t just about robots; they’re about imagination, sustainability, and seeing the potential in things others throw away. It’s about giving children permission to play, to create with their hands, and to look at the world a little differently.
So if you’ve got a child (or grandchild, or niece, or neighbour!) who loves inventing, daydreaming, or just asking, “But what if…?”—they’ll love meeting Weebert.
🧡 You can read more of Weebert’s adventures, watch our short stop-motion animations, and download FREE activity sheets from our website:
There’s something magical waiting to be discovered—and it might just be in the bits you thought were scrap.
See you next Sunday when we’ll meet the next Bert in the family… and trust me, they’re just as loveable.
Lotty x
