Once Upon a Time…
There was a little robot made from a Cold War spy camera, a pair of opera glasses, and a whole lot of imagination. His name was Weebert, and he lived in a world built from bolts, brass, and brilliant ideas.
But to tell Weebert’s story properly, we have to go back even further—before the books, before the brand, before the flying sheep.
We have to go back to the workshop.
💛 From Healing to Creating
Andy, my husband and creative partner, didn’t set out to start a business. He didn’t even set out to build a world. He just needed something to help him feel okay.
After decades in aviation, including 27 years in the Army, Andy was struggling with his mental health. And so, as many of us do, he turned to what he knew: tools, wire, discarded parts… and his hands.
He started making robots.
Not sleek, futuristic ones but quirky, characterful sculptures made from scrap.
Each one was different. Each one had personality.
And each one helped him feel a little more like himself.
They weren’t built to sell. They were built to soothe.
And somewhere in that process, between the pliers and the polishing, something magical began to take shape.
🤖 Enter Weebert (and a Flying Sheep)
One day, Andy made a tiny one. No bigger than a can of beans. Curious-looking. Sweet. A little wonky. And instantly loveable.
I looked at him and said, “He needs a name.”
We called him Weebert.
Not long after, one of our grandchildren flopped onto the sofa and sighed, “I’m bored.”
Instead of suggesting colouring or snacks, I wrote a story.
A story about a robot who was bored, too.
And how his boredom led him on an unexpected adventure with a flying sheep named Barbara.
That story became a second story. Then a third. And before we knew it, Weebert had a whole world around him.
🌍 From Scrap to Story to Something So Much Bigger
Weebert’s World wasn’t built overnight.
It was built one idea at a time on lunch breaks, in quiet moments, and late at night.
What started as a creative outlet slowly turned into something we both believed could be so much more.
Today, Weebert’s World is:
📚 A growing library of stories
🎓 An educational outreach programme in schools and libraries
🧠 A platform that inspires creativity, play, and a gentle introduction to STEM
🎞 A developing concept for stop-motion animation
🧸 A future space for character-led toys and games
But most importantly;it’s a brand built with heart.
Every bolt, every page, every lesson is grounded in our belief that children deserve stories and spaces that fuel their imagination.
🐑 Why Barbara the Flying Sheep Matters
Barbara, our slightly chaotic, cloud-headed sheep, is a perfect example of what Weebert’s World stands for.
She’s just like everyone’s favourite grandma slightly whimsical. Totally Unexpected.
A bit wobbly in the air, but always full of joy, and wisdom
She reminds us that the best adventures come from the most ordinary moments.
And that boredom, when met with imagination, can turn into magic.
🧰 A Name with Legacy
The Berts, the family of scrap-built robots who live in Weebert’s World, are named in honour of my great-grandfather, Herbert.
He was a man who could never throw anything away if he thought it might be useful.
Drawers full of springs and screws, boxes of old bits and bobs, nothing was wasted.
That same spirit runs through every character we create.
Each Bert is made from scrap and built with care.
Because we believe there’s beauty in what’s been left behind, and possibility in every forgotten part.
🌟 Once Upon a Time… and Still Going Strong
We never set out to build a brand.
But now that we are, we’re doing it with intention.
We want Weebert’s World to be the best children’s brand in the world – not the loudest, or the biggest, but the most thoughtful, authentic, and joy-filled. A place where children feel seen, where play feels purposeful, and where creativity feels like a superpower.
So yes, once upon a time, a little robot was born from scrap and a moment of stillness.
And that moment turned into a mission.
We’re still building.
Still believing.
Still telling stories that start with, “What if…?”
And we’re so glad you’re here with us.
