Fuzzbert is one of those rare scrap art robot sculptures an Autobert who looks as though he was built for speed, crafted for style, and destined to spark conversations wherever he rests. Sculpted from a large antique loom shuttle, ebonised with the traditional Shou Sugi Ban technique and finished with a deep lacquered sheen, his sleek bodywork nods to the golden age of racing machines. One glance and you can almost hear the whisper of engines on an open road.
His classic Meccano 3” cartwheels and extruded rubber-seal tyres give him a grounded, purposeful stance, while his twin front lights, crafted from an old otoscope, cast that signature Autobert glow. Beneath the polished surface sits a wonderfully eccentric powertrain: a Tecalemit grease gun forms the engine block, with jet-engine bolts and cup washers arranged in a perfect V8 configuration. A retro aluminium power-tool socket becomes his supercharger, hinting at the power he would command if he ever roared to life.
At the rear, a luggage rack holds an enamelled tin and spare wheel, because even Autoberts who love to streak ahead understand the importance of being prepared. The back wheel carries Meccano cogs and a functioning chain drive, celebrating the joy of engineering in its purest form.
And then there’s the driver himself. Fuzzbert’s Bert driver has a body made from a Gowlands otoscope, a head formed from a pair of miniature field glasses, and arms crafted from discarded servo controls. Together, they create a poised, determined little racer, all focus, curiosity, and charm.
Fuzzbert isn’t simply a sculpture. He’s a story.
He’s the spark that ignites a conversation about creativity, reinvention, and the surprising beauty hiding within scrap. Whether he sits proudly on a shelf, takes centre stage on a desk, or becomes the standout piece in a man cave, Fuzzbert brings personality, craftsmanship, and imagination in equal measure.
A true Autobert, built not just from parts … but from passion.
