✨ The Best Magic Starts in the Mess
If you walked into our workshop this week, you’d probably turn right back around again.
There’s sawdust on the floor, copper wire in tangles, old clock springs scattered across the bench, and somewhere in the middle of it all, Andy, muttering to himself about having definitely put that rotor bush down just a minute ago. 😅
It’s chaos. Wonderful, creative, slightly overwhelming chaos.
And as Halloween approaches, the chaos always seems to take on a life of its own, because this is the Skellybert season.
💀 The Return of the Skellyberts
For anyone new to Weebert’s World, the Skellyberts are Andy’s steampunk skulls, each one hand-carved from Victorian table tops, balanced on old clock springs, and crowned with a helicopter rotor bush top hat.
They’re not spooky; they’re soulful.
Each one carries its own quirks, dings, and imperfections, like they’ve lived a life before becoming what they are now.
When we first made them last year, we had no idea how much people would love them. They sold quickly, found their way into homes and hearts, and became a little symbol of what we’re all about: turning the forgotten into something extraordinary.
Now, as the days grow shorter and the smell of bonfires fills the air, the last few Skellyberts are back in the spotlight, a reminder that imagination doesn’t just build things, it transforms them.
🧹 The Beauty of a Messy Workshop
I used to think a tidy desk was a sign of control, that everything needed to be in its place before I could start creating or planning.
But then I married a maker.
Andy’s world is a living, breathing mess of materials, tools, and ideas, and I’ve come to realise something: the best magic starts in the mess.
That’s true for art, but it’s also true for business, storytelling, and even life.
We often celebrate the finished product, the polished sculpture, the perfect presentation, the tidy post for social media. But behind every “ta-da!” moment is a trail of false starts, wobbling prototypes, burnt toast, and bits that didn’t quite work.
It’s easy to look at the mess and feel like it’s proof you’re not getting anywhere. But often, it’s the exact opposite, it’s proof that you are.
Because the truth is, creation looks messy long before it looks beautiful.
💭 Learning to Love the Chaos
At 62, I’ve learned that the creaky, imperfect, and unpredictable parts of life often hold the most value.
Just like the Skellyberts, we all have cracks and scratches, and they’re not things to hide; they’re where the light gets in.
Every unfinished idea, every attempt that doesn’t go to plan, every “what on earth was I thinking?” moment is part of something bigger.
For me, the mess has become a teacher. It reminds me to slow down, trust the process, and laugh when things go wrong.
Because if you can find joy in the muddle, whether that’s a kitchen full of craft glitter, a desk covered in half-ideas, or a workshop full of dust, you’re already living the creative life.
And that, to me, is magic.
⚙️ A Message for Makers (of All Kinds)
You don’t need to be an artist to create magic.
Whether you’re leading a team, raising children, running a business, or just trying to get through the week, creativity is in every choice you make. It’s in how you solve problems, how you adapt, and how you bring your imagination to the everyday.
That’s the spirit behind Weebert’s World, not about being perfect or polished, but about giving people of all ages permission to play, explore, imagine, and create.
So if your week feels messy, or your plans are going sideways, or you’re staring at something half-finished and wondering if it’ll ever come together…
take a breath.
You’re not failing.
You’re right where the magic begins.
🕯️ A Final Thought
Halloween might be about ghosts and ghouls, but here at Weebert’s World, it’s about something different: transformation.
A pile of scrap becomes a sculpture.
A story becomes a spark.
A messy day becomes a reminder that you’re still growing.
And if that’s not magic, I don’t know what is.
💬 Over to you:
What kind of “mess” are you in right now, the creative kind, the life kind, or the “how is it already Wednesday?” kind?
Share it, we’d love to remind you that every bit of chaos has creative potential.
with love
