Two Kids from a Council Estate… Off to the House of Lord

This afternoon, Andy and I are heading to the House of Lords.

Even writing that sentence feels surreal. I’ll be in a lovely dress, Andy in his suit, and underneath it, his special Weebert’s World t-shirt that proudly says “Imagination is my superpower.” Because it is. That’s how we got here. That’s how it all started.

We’ve been invited to the Soldiering On Awards finalists’ reception, a gathering of finalists, judges, the brilliant X-Forces Enterprise team, and many others who’ve supported veteran-led businesses like ours. We’re truly honoured to be part of it.

Walking in the Footsteps of Remarkable People

For us, this is more than just a reception.

We’re walking into a place where some of the UK’s most inspiring changemakers have stood. People like Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, a Paralympian and advocate for disability rights. Baroness Doreen Lawrence, who turned her personal tragedy into a powerful legacy of change. And Lord Andrew Mawson, who championed social enterprise and community-led regeneration.

To even take a step in their direction, let alone walk through the same doors,  is something we won’t forget.

Two kids from a council estate in Leeds, now heading to the House of Lords with a dream and a business built on scrap, stories, and a spark of imagination.

The Story Behind Weebert’s World

We didn’t set out to build a children’s brand. It just… grew.

Andy made a tiny robot from scrap. I wrote a story about it. That robot became Weebert. More stories followed. We filmed a stop-motion animation on the kitchen table. We built a website. Then one day we looked up and thought, “Blimey, we’ve started something here.”

Now, Weebert’s World is a British-made children’s brand, with gentle stop-motion animations on YouTube and free creative resources for kids and their grown-ups. Everything we do is about helping children slow down, play, imagine, and be curious, because those soft skills aren’t soft at all. They’re the seeds of innovation.

Why Today Matters

This moment means more to us than we can say.

It’s a reminder that imagination is a superpower, and that even the scrappiest of ideas can grow into something beautiful with belief and a bit of bravery.

For Andy, a veteran who served 27 years working on helicopters, and for me, someone who was told more than once as a child that I had “too much imagination for my own good” this isn’t just an event. It’s a celebration of possibility.

We’re not polished. We’re not big-budget. But we’re real. We’re building something that matters. And today, we’ll stand tall in a room where people like us haven’t always been invited. And we’ll do it with pride.
