Weebert’s World Visits Shrewsbury High School Juniors. There are moments in this journey that remind us exactly why we’re doing what we’re doing—and our visit to Shrewsbury High Juniors last week was one of them.
Andy and I (Lotty) had the joy of sharing Weebert’s World with the Reception and Year 1 girls, and we’re still buzzing from the experience. We read stories, introduced the girls to some of our real-life scrap-built Berts, and watched their imaginations spark to life in the most incredible way.
One teacher told us:
“The girls absolutely loved the robots and imaginative stories. They were so engaged and inspired – one girl even started writing her own robot adventure story!”
If that doesn’t fill your heart, I don’t know what will.
There’s something so special about seeing children completely absorbed in storytelling—eyes wide, questions flowing, imaginations running wild. The girls had brilliant questions, wonderful ideas, and a real spark of curiosity that filled the room.
During the visit, I asked the girls what they would like to see in a brand-new Weebert story—something set in space to tie in with what they’d been learning in class. Their ideas came thick and fast: meteor showers, shooting stars, and flying cars. I was so inspired by their creativity that when I got home, I wrote Weebert in Space—a new story brought to life by their suggestions and excitement. I sent it to their teachers, who read it to the girls in class shortly after our visit.
Stories really do come to life when they’re shaped by the hearts and ideas of children themselves.
But the magic didn’t stop there.
We later received this message from a parent that nearly brought tears to our eyes:
“Lotty, Andy and The Berts visited my daughter’s school recently and when she got home (she’s always had a vivid imagination) but I noticed a leap in her imagination and she couldn’t stop wanting to create and invent all evening – and a few days on, this is still the case. She really engaged with the Weebert World and we will cherish the books forever! Can’t wait to see Weebert on the ‘big screen’ – she keeps asking to watch it on YouTube but only short clips – we await full episodes!”
That’s it. That’s the reason we’re doing this. Yes, we want to create a children’s television show. Yes, we have a brand to build and dreams to chase. But most of all, we want to light up children’s imaginations. To give them permission to play, explore, invent, and dream.
The fact that one school visit could spark a new story, inspire a child to create all evening, and fill a classroom with such joy—well, we’d call that a very good week.
We’ve always believed that Weebert’s World has the potential to make a positive impact. And feedback like this is proof that it already is.
To every teacher and pupil at Shrewsbury High Juniors who welcomed us so warmly—thank you. Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and kindness meant the world to us. We hope to return soon. And we sincerely hope to see Weebert and his scrap-built friends on your television screens in the not-so-distant future.
💛 Because when a child sees a robot made from helicopter parts and old clock gears, and says, “I could make one of those,” we know we’re on the right track.
