We’re Not Winding Down … We’re Winding Up

We’re Not Winding Down … We’re Winding Up

Taking a moment to be thankful…and excited for what’s still to come.

If you’d told me a couple of years ago that we’d be here, building a children’s brand from scratch, talking to animation studios, and inspiring families across the UK, I wouldn’t have believed you. It’s been a journey filled with detours, doubt, determination, and a little robot made from a Cold War spy camera.

We’ve come a long way. And this week, we’re taking a moment to pause, be thankful, and look ahead with excitement.

From Breakdown to Bert-Building

A couple of years ago, Andy hit a wall. After 45 years in aviation, 27 of them in the Army, it all caught up with him. Quietly, gradually, the pressure became too much. He had a breakdown.

He got help. The medication helped. But so did something else: he went into the garage.

With no intention of creating anything at first, Andy started fixing, tinkering, and putting bits of scrap together. What he ended up building surprised us both: a little robot with character and charm. And then another. And another. We called them The Berts.

It was never about the robots, really. It was about having a space to breathe. A way to be still while still doing. Andy calls it “meditation for engineers.”

And although that time was tough, it also marked the beginning of something incredible.

Ongoing Mental Wellbeing

It’s important to say that mental wellbeing isn’t something you tick off and forget about. Andy still has to look after his mental health. So do I. Don’t we all?

There’s something very human about that. Some days are smooth, and some need a bit more care. What we’ve learned is that having your thing, that creative outlet, that sense of purpose, makes all the difference.

Weebert’s World has become that thing for both of us.

A Brand Built on Hope, Scrap and Imagination

From that small beginning, we’ve built something we’re proud of.
What started as a way to cope became a growing world of stories, characters, and purpose.

Weebert’s World isn’t just a children’s brand. It’s a space for imagination, creativity, curiosity, and for finding the fun in figuring things out. Our characters, like Tweebert and Digbert, are full of wonder, flaws, and joy. Just like us.

We’ve gone from robots on a workshop bench to dreaming of stop-motion animation, growing our school outreach, and talking to people who believe this could be something really special.

We’re doing this not instead of retiring, but because we still have so much more to give.

Taking a Moment to Be Thankful

Sometimes it’s easy to focus on what’s next, the funding, the deadlines, the what-ifs. But today we’re taking a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come.

From a workshop in Shropshire to meeting creative teams who’ve worked with Aardman and Netflix.
From one story scribbled down on the back of a napkin to a whole cast of Berts waiting to be brought to life.

We’re not a big company. We’re not polished or perfect.
We’re Lotty and Andy. We’re grandparents. We’re builders, writers, dreamers, and doers.

We’ve turned a hard chapter into something hopeful.
And we’re so grateful for every person who’s joined us on the way.

Looking Ahead With Joy

We don’t know exactly what’s coming next, and that’s part of the fun. But we do know this: we’re not doing this by accident. We’re doing it with purpose. With determination. And with the belief that what we’re building matters.

Weebert’s World isn’t just about robots made from scrap, it’s about sparking something in children.
It’s about giving them permission to imagine, to explore, to create.
It’s about showing them that there are many ways to learn and many paths to grow.

And it’s about leaving something behind that lives beyond us.

We’re doing what we love, for people we love, and with the hope that one story, one robot, one spark of curiosity might just inspire the engineers, artists, dreamers and doers of tomorrow.

So to anyone reading this who feels like they’ve missed their moment, or wonders if it’s too late to start again, let this be your reminder:

You’re not winding down. You might just be winding up.

With all our love,
Lotty (& Andy)
🧡
