Wow. What a day! I’m still buzzing!
Yesterday I went to the Get Animated conference in Birmingham—and what a jam-packed day it was. Brilliant speakers, incredibly helpful 1-to-1 meetings, loads of new contacts, and most importantly… a real sense that people get Weebert’s World.
Huge thanks to Ryan Beaird for organising such a fantastic event. It was my first time attending, and I can honestly say it stands out as the most useful and energising event I’ve been to. It was expertly run, full of people who really know their stuff, and—just as important—people who are kind enough to share what they know. Ryan, you’re a star (but I suppose you already know that).
The on-stage sessions were packed with value—from the BBC and Animate UK, to Aardman, Jazwares, and so many other respected voices from the animation industry. Listening to their insights was like sitting in a masterclass, with every speaker offering something meaningful to take away.
I had some fantastic 1-to-1 meetings that gave me the kind of guidance I’ve been craving. Massive thank you to Rob Wijeratna from Rocket Licensing, Susan Bolsover from Lightbulb Licensing, and Graeme Murray from Marks & Clerk. Your morale-boosting words, encouragement and practical direction meant the world to me. Truly. When you’re building something on your kitchen table and wondering if the world will see what you see—it’s amazing to hear that yes, there’s something here. Something people believe in.
Honestly, I feel like this is turning into an acceptance speech at an awards ceremony—“I’d like to thank my co-founder Andy, the copper wire, the vintage clock springs…” But in all seriousness, when you’re creating an authentic brand from the heart—something real, scrappy, meaningful—you really do treasure the people who take the time to help you shape it. People who see the potential, even in something made from spare parts.
And a special shoutout to Chris Randall—I loved your pitch, I adore Tweedy and Fluff, and I’m genuinely looking forward to visiting your studio. There’s something really magical about seeing other creators bring joy to life with characters that feel so full of heart.
If I learned one thing yesterday, it’s this: there is a space for stories told with care, creativity, and imagination. And Weebert’s World, with all its quirks and copper curls, has a real chance of stepping into it.
Here’s to big dreams built from small scraps—and the people who help turn them into reality. And one day soon, I hope Weebert’s World will be standing on that very stage, sharing its own story, sparking imaginations, and inspiring the next generation of creators.
Lotty x
